the NHS and the private sector. Violence in the workplace requires a
complete strategy and our training courses will help you reduce the
likelihood of aggressive situations getting out of control and resulting
in physical attacks.
Conflict Resolution Tutorial
> Explanation of the
relevant Laws, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 Use of Force and
the relevant factors.
> Provide an explanation
of what interpersonal skills are and what they are for.
> Listening skills:
Explanation of the difference between passive and active listening.
Explanation of the effects of poor listening. Explains potential aggression
trigger points when listening. Explains the advantages of good listening.
Explains the signs shown when listening is not sufficient.
> Explanation of the
meaning of aggression and cover the areas in which aggression occurs.
> Explanation of the
different types of communications (aggressive, submissive, assertive
and concealed aggressive.
> Explanation of the
relevance of eye contact.
> Explanation of the
relevance of posture and provide examples of possible meanings. Explains
the the dangers of making assumptions.
> Explanation of the
effects of culture and gender.
> Explanation of proximity
and interpersonal space. To include victim and aggressor.
> Explanation of orientation
and how to change/manipulate the setting.
> Explanation of paralinguistics.
> Explanation of the
differences that appearances make.
> Explanation as to
how to improve interpersonal skills.
> Give general guidelines
on defusing situations with examples and the need to share experiences.
> Give advice on high-risk
patients (those in custody, police etc.)
Total duration for
session is approx. 3 hours including a 20 minute comfort break and at
least one relevant game or role-play.
Physical Training - Breakaways
> Warm up excercises.
> Falling (side, front
and back break-falls)
> Handstrikes: Hammer
fist, chop and palm strikes.
> Kicking: Low level
kicks to front and side.
> Hand strikes and
kicks are used to break down student barriers they are taught in conjunction
with shouting and body language.
> Wrist escape techniques,
parallel and diagonal techniques: Both single and double hand techniques
(No less than three from the front and three from the rear).
> Collar grabs one
handed and two handed: Both straight arm and up close techniques (No
less than two techniques for each).
> Strangle holds from
the front, rear and side head chancery positions.
> Strangle holds if
lying on the floor assailant on top.
> Bear hugs front and
rear over arm and under arm techniques.
> Hair grabs.
> Sharp edge weapon
techniques (May be excluded).
> Holding techniques
(May be excluded).
Total Duration: Approx. 6 hours including
two 20 minute comfort breaks, one of which may be lunch.
Restrictive Handling
This has been specifically developed for security staff, high-risk nursing
staff and possibly for new customers provided they can justify a need
for these techniques as there are legal implications once people have
been trained to this level. It is intense training training for the
purpose of maintaining a safe environment for the most aggressive people
until the police etc. can attend.
